Ok, so you’re likely wondering, “What’s up with the name?”  After toying around with the idea of changing my twitter handle, a few colleagues and I were sitting around talking, joking and playing around with new names. Then like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, “@theberknologist” was born… It might change next year – who knows?  All depends on which way the wind blows.

I have over 16 years of teaching experience and currently serve as the Educational Technology Coordinator for Grades 4 – 12, at St. Albans School, in Washington, DC.  Prior to my role at St. Albans, I served as the Upper School Academic Technology Coordinator and Coordinator of the Global Online Academy program at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC.  Before joining the independent school circuit,  I worked as an AP biology teacher and iPad Coordinator in Prince George’s County Public Schools, where I was able to orchestrate the deployment and management of 700 iPads into a school population of 2,300. In my current role, I am responsible for promoting and supporting the integration of technology into the curriculum. To that end, I meet with teachers on customizing lessons which integrate technology for purposes of transforming the learning experience for all learners. In 2012, I completed Wilkes University’s Instructional Media graduate program, a partnership with Discovery Education, where I also serve as a member of the Discovery Educator’s Network and Leadership Council.  I am a Level 1 and 2 Google Certified Teacher and am working on completing the Google Trainer Certificate.  I’ve also completed the Common Sense Educator Digitial Citizenship certification program.

In my spare time, I enjoy laughing out loud, listening to music out loud and cooking out loud (well, not really, I just felt the need to say that – sorry ).  I also enjoy welcoming new followers on Twitter and Google Plus and can be found at @theberknologist.
